The wildflower meadow at the Royal Botanical Gardens Sydney was established in 2016 and visited by Costa during the 32nd series of Gardening Australia. We were thrilled that our flowers from our seeds were shown in the ABC's Gardening Australia Field of Blooms video.
Back in 2016, the meadow was just a seedling of an idea to introduce beneficial insects into the city's green space. Under the guidance of Brad Doherty, a horticulturist at the Gardens, what started as a modest patch has flourished into a sprawling 2,000 square metre haven for wildlife. This vibrant meadow has become a sanctuary for bees and butterflies, and it's even drawn in parasitic wasps, which have played a crucial role in managing aphid populations - a common pest in the area. The careful selection of wildflowers has not only added aesthetic value to the urban environment but also bolstered the local ecosystem.
The wildflower meadow at the Royal Botanical Gardens Sydney continues to flourish. Today, it stands as a testament to the Garden's commitment to urban ecological enrichment, attracting a diverse array of pollinators and beneficial insects.
