Why You'll Love It

Pincushion Scabiosa Merlot produces deep, velvety red blooms with the same frilly pincushion and honey-scented charm as the classic mix, but in a rich, saturated single colour that makes a bold statement in borders and bouquets alike.

Held on long, wiry stems reaching around 90cm tall, it's an excellent cut flower that pairs beautifully with softer pinks, creams and whites, or looks equally striking massed on its own. The more you cut, the more it flowers, blooming prolifically from summer right through to the first frosts.

It performs best in full sun and well-drained, slightly alkaline soil, preferring cooler conditions and slowing in peak summer heat before picking back up as temperatures ease. A favourite with butterflies and bees.

Note: Some varieties of Scabiosa are listed as a weed in South Australia. Customers in SA should check local regulations before purchasing or planting.
