Why You'll Love It
A nasturtium that stands out even before it flowers. Nasturtium Alaska Mix is prized for its striking foliage, rounded leaves marbled in green and white, which makes a beautiful backdrop for the bright, double-spurred blooms in shades of gold, orange, red, yellow, mahogany and cream.
A dwarf, compact grower reaching around 30cm, it suits pots, containers, borders, hanging baskets and small garden spaces. Easy to grow and genuinely low maintenance, it thrives in full sun and prefers poor to average, well-drained soil; rich soil tends to mean more leaves and fewer flowers.
Flowering from summer through autumn, it's a long-lasting source of colour and a favourite with bees and other pollinators. Both the flowers and leaves are edible, with a peppery, tangy flavour that works well in salads or as a garnish, and the unripe seed pods can even be pickled as a caper substitute.
