Why You'll Love It

There's nothing quite like a hollyhock against an old fence or garden wall. Hollyhock Chater's Formula Mix has enormous, fully ruffled double blooms in a rich mix of scarlet, pink, white, purple, yellow and apricot, packed densely along spires that reach 1.5 to 2m tall.

A biennial that self-seeds so freely it behaves more like a perennial, it forms a rosette of large, heart-shaped leaves in its first year before sending up its dramatic flowering spikes the following summer. Plant it along a wall or fence, leave it to do its thing, and it will quietly establish and come back year after year.

It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, needs a sheltered spot to protect those tall stems from wind, and may need staking in exposed positions. Loved by bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
