Why You'll Love It
A low, tumbling perennial that earns its keep without asking for much. Rock Soapwort forms a dense, spreading mat of semi-evergreen foliage, smothering itself in masses of small, bright rose pink blooms in late spring through summer. Each plant spreads to around 30 to 60cm wide while staying a neat 15cm tall, making it one of the most effective and attractive flowering ground covers available.
Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it's a natural for rockeries, raised beds, dry stone walls, gravel gardens and the front of sunny borders, where it will spill and trail beautifully over edges. Tough and drought-tolerant once established, it thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy or rocky soil, and needs very little attention once settled in. It does best in cooler, drier conditions and may struggle in hot, humid summers.
Tip: Trim back hard after flowering to keep it tidy and encourage a fresh flush of growth the following season. Self-seeds gently without becoming a nuisance and is naturally resistant to deer.
