Why You'll Love It
A true heirloom, Poppy Shirley Double Mix produces delicate, crepe paper-like blooms in a soft, romantic mix of pink, red, white, salmon and blush rose, swaying gracefully on slender, wiry stems. Each flower can be double, semi-double or single, giving every bloom its own subtle character.
Growing to around 60cm tall, it's beautifully suited to cottage gardens, borders, and meadow-style plantings, and looks especially striking massed together in drifts. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and is an easy, trouble-free annual once established, tolerating a range of soil types and tending to flower earlier in the season than many other annuals. Best sown in early spring or autumn, avoiding the heat of summer.
Self-seeding readily, it's a lovely choice for naturalising in a sunny corner, and the open blooms are well-loved by bees.
